photographer jenny hammar

Eight years ago I made the decision to make the career change and become a photographer, and this has been one of the best and most defining moments in my life.

Everyday I wake up to a job that I love!

I photograph people (big and small) and places (near and far) as well as weddings, which has been a focus of mine for the past six years or so.

I hope you will enjoy this collection of photos that ties together my wedding photography with my portraits, travel and other work.

Wedding Shoot - Behind the Scenes

Hours, days or weeks before a wedding I go to the place where we are going to shoot and scope out the scene. In this case I brought my assistent and I usually make him pose and be my model so I can test the light, composition, etc… As I was looking through some photos from this past summer I found these and thought it might be fun to post the “scope out” and then the result with the real live bride or groom. Tear Sheets from my Travel Story on Puglia / Italy - RES

On news stands now you will find the latest number of RES, a travel magazine I freelance for. In this issue I have done a story about Puglia (a.k.a. Apulien), written by Peter Loewe. Having travelled so much to Rome in the past few years, I was so relieved to visit this unexploited area of Italy. The people were so friendly and loved to be photographed! And there were so few tourists, which I loved. Oh, and the food… don’t get me started!!

Puglia RES

Puglia RES

This past fall I had the opportunity to practice my rusty Italian (in my “youth” I lived a year in Florence) when I photographed a travel reportage for RES, a Swedish travel magazine. The story is coming out in the next number and now that photos have been chosen I can blog a few of the photos that are not going to be in the story. Puglia is the part of Italy in the heel of the boot, if you know what I mean. I had never been there before and discovered an un-expoited part of this great country. The food was amazing, the people loved to be photographed (unlike Rome where they shy away from people like me putting a huge lens in front of their faces) and a magical kind of light. In these photos you will find sunrise light, sunset light and one inbetween.

Anders and Maria were greats sports about going outside to take some photos despite the freezing cold temperatures of -15 degrees Celcius (5 degrees Farenheit)!!! So needless to say, we did not spend a whole lot of time outside, but we did capture a few shots on this beautiful winter day.

Since winters here in Sweden are not know for being very “luminous”, you might think that I have photoshopped the light into these photos, but that is not the case. On January 30th, when I photographed Anders and Maria at the Butterfly House in Stockholm, it was a gorgeous day and the light was magical indeed! I was, of course, jumping up and down and practically tripping over myself while photographing this bride and groom, so excited about the place, the light and how beautiful they were. More shots of them, the ones taken outdoors, coming soon in another post!

In August I was in Copenhagen shooting a wedding (click here to see the photos), and I was just looking through some photos I took of Copenhagen the following day. It was a gorgeous day and the city was so amazing. It made me miss summer and sunlight…

A dear friend of mine asked me to photograph her fabric designs for her portfolio and I thought I would post these shots. Bettina attends Beckmans College of Design and is such a talented artist! Click here for more information about her. Oh, and the gorgeous model is Livia Moore.

Many brides and grooms put a lot of time and thought behind every detail in their wedding. From the choice of lace in a veil to pieces of jewelry that have a special meaning… I love documenting these as I feel they really add to the complete story of a Wedding Day.
