The Dance – and other photographs from Italy

Back after a nice holiday break with lots of things to show you! I will shortly present my BEST OF 2011 wedding photos but first I wanted to show you some images from my November exhibit.

The Dance

Sidewalk, Finito, Road

Green Portal, Olives, Morning Glow, Dawn

Munk, Maria

Amalfi Coast, Boats, Dusk, Positano

These are most of the photos that were included in my solo-exhibit in November. The photos were taken on the Amalfi Coast and in the region Puglia, in southern Italy. They are a handful of images from a larger body of work that came about during a trip to Italy for the travel magazine RES during the late summer of 2009.

When I took these photos, I was pregnant with my twins and right before we had left Sweden I had found out that I was expecting two boys. This is something that is reflected in some of the images, and espcially in the series “The Dance”, the black and whites of the two boys playing by the water’s edge. I remember how I sat and observed these boys in that special dusk light. I looked at how they played with eachother and moved so effortlessly, and how they almost moved as one unit at times. Where they brothers? It looked like a dance and this memory became a sort of poetic and visual goal for me.

To contrast this theme of “two-somes” and brotherhood I even included landscapes and places with magical llight, colors and ocean.

These are the smaller Holga prints…

Some more information:

All the prints are for sale, and I would be happy to send larger photos for better viewing if you like.

The very small photos are shot with a Holga, real old-school film, and the prints are 13x18cm.

All prints, except for The Dance, measure 61x75cm and are printed on exclusive archival papercalled ART550. It’s very thick and shows color beautifully!

Holiday Break

I hope that you have all had a wonderful Christmas Eve and Day. My family and I sure did, and I am now gearing up to celebrate my twins’ birthday tomorrow (they are turning 2!) We will take a few days off and so I will see you all in the new year. A big Christmas and New Year’s hug to you all.

afterglow

Afterglow is the new name of the photo sessions I do with couples after they are married. It can be the day after the wedding or it can be, as with Nina and Simon, 4 years after the wedding. Nina contacted me after I photographed her best friend’s wedding and asked if I could take some portraits of her and her husband at the venue where they had had their wedding 4 years ago. Nina made her own dress (which is incredible!!) and sadly didn’t have any good ones from her wedding day. Well, this was good for me because it meant I got to spend a couple of hours at the gorgeous Bygget in Stockholm, with this gorgeous couple. We went for a retro 60′s look / hollywood glamour and I hope that the attraction I saw between Nina and Simon translate into the photos.  So not your ordinary “wedding” photos but hopefully something with a little extra “glow”.

PS Nina’s friend’s wedding has a similar retro feel to it, click here to see Eva and Per’s blog posting.

Exhibit Opening a success – thanks!

I love photography. I even remember the exact moment, believe it or not, that I knew I wanted to be a photographer. It was on a trip to New York back in 1999, when I happened to spot a young man sitting in a small sliver of light. It was a rough-looking area, but the way the light hit him, it looked to me like he had a guardian angel. I took the photo, and just knew that it was THE shot. I probably waited weeks to get the film developed, but it didn’t matter because it was finding the shot and “taking” the photo that was so thrilling.

From the very beginning travelling has brought me so much inspiration. Seeing new things, meeting new people, experiencing new types of light, sunsets and sunrises. I now have the privilage or working with what I love, but this also means that I think a little differently when I shoot. When I was in Italy in 2009 shooting for the magazine RES (Amalfi and Puglia) I took tons of photos of course, and the magazine made their selection for the stories they published. For this exhibit that I have going on right now, I was able to pick MY absolute favorites, and focus on stories that moved me. For me, having an exhibit like this is very personal and therefore revealing (=scary). That’s why I am so incredibly grateful that so many friends came to the opening, making this uneasy moment just plain fun! I am attaching a photo taken by my sister who flew in from Madrid to be with us, and a collage of the flowers that now fill my home with a wonderful scent, amazing colors and LOVE. I feel so lucky.

The show is still going on, so I hope you will go and see it. Here is the information (or check out my facebook page for more info). After the show I will be posting more photos included in the exhibit.

Karen and Michael’s perfect wedding day – Raleigh, North Carolina

What happens when two funny/charming/beautiful/thoughtful/creative people from the advertising industry get married? It becomes a fun/charming/beautiful/thoughtful and creative wedding! To do this wedding day justice I would have to make eight blog postings, but alas I have narrowed down my selection, hoping that this conveys what a gorgeous wedding this was…. and how fun/funny this couple is!

The Flanders Art Gallery in downtown Raleigh, where they had the ceremony and the dinner, was such a cool venue for a wedding, with pink spotlights lighting up the artwork. And the industrial surroundings were the prefect backdrop for some fun cocktail hour shots. Some highlights for me included the bird theme, which you should see clues from throughout the photos, hundreds of mini cupcakes instead of a big wedding cake, pink and grey details (flowers, rice lamps, socks), the most amazing cotton bouquet with antique broches, the mix of urban and southern, a gorgeous draped weddings dress, and the most dramatic (rose)marriage ceremony ever.

I will be uploading more photos on my Facebook page, so “LIKE” me there to find out when more shots are posted.
